The Roy Military Survey of Scotland

Roy Survey William Roy’s Military Survey of Scotland was undertaken between 1747 and 1755, in the wake of the Jacobite Rebellion, which revealed a military need for a decent survey of the country. The originals are in the hands of the British Library, but a digital version is now being made available on the National Library of Scotland web site. (At the moment they’re sort of in a pre-release mode, so there may still be some lingering bugs. The web interface doesn’t work in Safari, for example.)
