Mapping the Philippines; Mapping the Pacific Coast

Two exhibitions to report on in this entry, nearly half a world apart — but each dealing in some way with mapping the Pacific region in the early modern era. At Manila University in the Philippines until March 31, “Putting the Philippines on the Map: The Belgian Contribution from the 16th to the 21st Century,” which combines antique maps from the 1500s and 1600s with recent satellite imagery, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports. And, at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, Nevada until April 17, Mapping the Pacific Coast: Coronado to Lewis and Clark, The Quivira Collection, which showcases some morsels from the private collection of map collector Henry Wendt.
